April meeting minutes

During our April meeting, we announced our first Board of Directors:

Andy Maus, Director, Minnesota Marine Art Museum
Tina Anderson, Director, Winona Community Foundation
Josi Severson, artist and businesswoman
Pete Kleinschmidt, Kleinschmidt Surveying and website guru
Mary Singer, artist and teacher
Bernadette Mahfood, artist and Business Director, Frozen River Film Festival
Vicki Englich, Winona State University Community Liaison

We will be able to appoint up to 11 members of the board as specified by our by-laws, which will be adopted at the next meeting. We will elect officers and determine term lengths, some of which will be staggered since terms are for 2 years. Therefore, some terms for this board will either be 1, 2, or possibly 3 years, so that the board will not have to start fresh at any time. RAA members and supporters are encouraged to attend the board meetings.

We discussed the Fringe Friday dates which will be 4 times per year: the last Friday of January, April, July, and October. April’s Fringe Friday follows the Studio Art Tour on April 29; the downtown galleries—Porter’s Studio, Blue Heron Gallery, Art 56, Lyon Smith’s Gallery, Mississippi Gypsy— will be open and wine and snacks will be served. Julie Johnston will be drawing at the Acoustic Café.

We discussed the Concerts on the Green (formerly Prelude Concerts). There will be 13 concerts this season and additional information will follow shortly.

We also discussed the Art in the Windows project in downtown Winona, and, since Winona is the art glass capital of the world, had fun with the possibility of installing stained glass-type images in store front windows using alternative materials to honor our stained glass artists. Bernadette will pursue this and make some phone calls.

Next meeting: Wednesday, May 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the Misato Room of City Hall.
