Carousel Bookmaking Workshop

Led by Jill Krase | Saturday | April 8 | 1:00-4:30pm
Winona Arts Center | 228 E 5th St | Winona, MN

A carousel book is a very clever artist book. The finished carousel is more than the sum of its simple accordion parts. When assembled, the book presents a series of six three-dimensional scenes, which taken together, are a play in six acts. Viewed through the window of the front panel, the book beckons the viewer into the layered world created within. When fully opened, the six stages form a complete circle, so that the viewer can read it by walking around its circumference. Seen from above, the book forms a complex star.

Learn the basics of this book form by making a simple model. Then make a second book using simple collage to build abstract content. Or, start on more elaborate content that you could finish at home. Bring your own images, text, and other collage materials if you like.

Tuition: $40 Winona Arts Center members/$45 non-members. Materials cost: $8. To register for the workshop call Jill Krase at 507-450-1231.
