TdM Playwriting Workshop

Do you love telling stories? Do you want to write your stories down for others to enjoy? Or have you ever considered writing a script? Well, you too could be a playwright.

In alignment with Theatre du Mississippi’s mission to support new playwrights, a new writer’s workshop is in the offering for this year. The workshop, scheduled to meet once every 3 – 5 weeks over a 6-month period, will cover the basics of playwriting including dramatic structure, character development, and dialogue. Participants will work on assignments between sessions then read their pieces aloud as they convene in the following weeks. The ultimate goal of the workshop is to culminate in writing one-act plays to produce in Original Shorts in April/May.

Judy Myers, MFA, Professor of Theatre at Saint Mary’s University and Theatre du Mississippi board member, will lead the workshops on Saturday mornings from 10:00 a.m. – Noon beginning September 23. Subsequent dates are October 21, November 18, December 16, January 20, and February 17. The fee for the 6-session workshop is $60.00, payable by check to TdM at the first session. Anyone seeking more information or interested in participating should contact Kathy Florin, Managing Director, at kathy@theatredumiss.org or Judy Myers at jmyers@smumn.edu.
