Dr. Iva Ugrčić, flutist from Serbia, and Satoko Hayami, pianist from Japan, will perform a concert entitled “Reflections for flute and piano” at two locations this weekend (details above).

These are exciting musicians to watch as Iva’s fingers fly over the instrument and Satoko plays the challenging piano music with ease. The Winona concert is sponsored by the Charles Wesley Center for Sacred Music and Arts and will feature special guest, Flutistry. The Galesville concert will feature a choir of flutists from participating schools in Galesville, led by band director, Brenda Gauchel.

The music will direct attention to Jesus as an historic figure and offer reflections from his life, with works by André Jolivet, Doina Rotaru, Lili Boulanger, Gabriel Fauré, Henri Dutilleux, Jennifer Higdon, and Gabriela Lena Frank. The concert will offer a piece to honor the Buddhist/Shinto tradition of Satoko as an inter-faith feature. Iva is from the Serbian Orthodox tradition.

Dr. Ugrčić is the Founder & Director of LunART Festival, and serves as the Executive Assistant-Board Relations at Overture Center for the Arts and Artistic Director for the Rural Musicians Forum in Spring Green, WI. After completing her Master’s degree in Paris, she was awarded the Paul Collins Distinguished Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Music, where she completed her Doctorate of Musical Arts degree. Ms. Hayami is currently a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at University of Wisconsin-Madison under the mentorship of Martha Fischer, and a recipient of Paul Collins Distinguished Fellowship. She earned a Master of Music degree in Piano Chamber Music and Accompanying at Rice University and the Cleveland Institute of Music. Both of these fine musicians have traveled the world performing before meeting in Madison.

A reception with refreshments will follow each concert.
