Explore Color at MMAM’s Second Saturday

Saturday | May 12 | 10am-5pm
Minnesota Marine Art Museum

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) in Winona, Minnesota is thrilled to announce the third of a series of Second Saturday events happening on May 12, 2018. Second Saturdays’ offer $1 admission and a variety of activities for all ages based around a theme every second Saturday of the month, March through October. May’s theme is color.

Programming for May 12th’s Second Saturday includes 30 minute museum tours with different focuses. There will be MMAM highlight tours, kids tours and a special color tour, where participants will discover how artists use and are influenced by color.

Cellist Rachael Ryan Dahlgren will perform in the galleries from 2:00-3:00 PM.

Art-making activities include creating marbled rainbow note cards with shaving cream and watercolors, and a color your own mandala project.

Continuing the color theme, artist Sarah Johnson will lead a mindful color walk at 11am, 12:15pm, and 1:15pm. These 30 minute interactive experiences will explore how we relate to color.  There will also be a “color lounge” set up for the day that will offer a place to experiment and play with color. Second Saturday: Color! runs from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM with all activities included in the $1 admission fee. A detailed schedule of events can be found at mmam.org/SecondSaturdays.

The Museum is able to offer this program thanks to a prestigious arts access grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. The highly competitive process encourages arts organizations across the state to invest in programming that creates long-term engagement between arts organizations and their communities.

MMAM is in its 11th year of operation and is a 501(c)3 nonprofit arts organization owned by its members. The Museum’s mission is to engage visitors in meaningful visual arts experiences through education and exhibitions that explore the ongoing and historic human relationship with water.
