Swell: Paintings by Beau Carey

August 21 – September 13
Watkins Gallery | Winona State University

Artist talk | August 30th | 4–5pm | Stark Hall, room 103
Reception with the artist at the Watkins Gallery | August 30th | 5-6pm

Beau Carey will present a series of oil paintings that contribute to the rich dialogue of plein air painting in the Winona region. Carey’s landscapes address notions of liminality and the man-altered landscape. The works Carey will show at the Winona State’s Watkins Gallery were conceived during a residency at Rabbit Island, a remote 91 acre forested island in Lake Superior.

Carey is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He earned his Masters of Fine Arts from the University of New Mexico in 2010. He has exhibited extensively throughout the United States, including at UBS gallery in New York, the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art in Boulder, CO and 516 Arts in Albuquerque, NM. Carey is represented by Goodwin Fine Art in Denver, CO.
