Laureate Writers Series – February 2017

James Schoen will be the featured guest for the Laureate Writers Series held Tuesday February 7 at the Blue Heron Coffee. Schoen will introduce his new book Night Work to the public. The book, worked on for several years, represents the fulfillment of a quiet career he has pursued while working as a bus driver and ORC employee while raising a family in Minnesota City.

His book has received high praise from those who have read it in manuscript form. “The stories in this book,” says one critic, “are for people who sometimes have very interesting bad dreams. There is a compelling dark side to Schoen’s narratives, expressed convincingly by a really exceptional writer—one with a sharp eye, tart wit, perfect word, and hilarious sense of humor. Some stories get under your skin. His stories go deeper than that.”

The book launch at the Blue Heron begins at 7 p.m. and will be followed by an open mic opportunity for audience members. The event is free and open to the public, and sponsored by the Winona Fine Arts Commission.

The Laureate Writer’s Series is sponsored by the City of Winona’s Fine Arts Commission. The City of Winona is a partner of River Arts Alliance.
