Wednesday | January 10 | 1:00-2:00pm
Winona Friendship Center | 251 Main St.

Saxophonist, composer and educator Dr. John Paulson will present a free, informal multi-media talk This is Not Your Father’s Big Band that will include an overview of the process involved in creating music for his 18-piece group plus the realities of presenting original big band jazz in today’s high-tech world.

Dr. Paulson retired from over 30 years of teaching at Saint Mary’s University and is now an adjunct music instructor in the jazz program at Winona State University. His first big band CD The John Paulson Big Band Project was released after the band formed in 2012 and they are preparing to record their 2nd CD Five Years On slated for release in the fall. This presentation precedes their free concert and live recording Sunday at 3:00 pm January 21 at the Vivian R. Fusillo Main Stage Theatre at Winona State University featuring several outstanding guest artists and the addition of vocalist Ariane Lydon.
