Great River Shakespeare Festival will be hosting a free Design Expo as part of its annual Design Weekend. This is a free event open to all ages.

As part of the extensive planning process for any season, Great River Shakespeare Festival directors, designers, and artisans gather in Winona during the early spring to solidify design plans for each show.  This is when various GRSF staff members have the opportunity to chat in person, share sketches, and  visit the performance spaces at Winona State University’s Performing Arts Center. The directors also  take this opportunity to solidify their vision for each show.

The weekend culminates in a public Design Expo where Artistic Director Doug Scholz-Carlson shares  with the public some of the themes the festival will be exploring in GRSF’s 16th anniversary season.  This year’s expo will feature free activities for kids as well as informational sessions for adults. There  will also be an opportunity for attendees to visit with individual designers and directors to learn more  about the process. Attendees at the Expo will get to hear casting announcements before they are  announced to the general public. In addition to artistic and casting announcements, GRSF staff will  share information on their youth programs and new features that will be a part of the GRSF’s 16th  season.

Families with middle- and high-school students are encouraged to attend as this is an excellent  opportunity to meet with and ask questions of professional theater artists. This event is free and open  to the public. Light refreshments will be provided. Join Great River Shakespeare Festival for the  Design Expo on Sunday, March 17th at the Winona County Historical Society (160 Johnson St,  Winona) from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m.
