The Minnesota Marine Art Museum’s (MMAM) is asking visitors to slow down and take their time during April’s Second Saturday. This month’s theme is A Longer Look: Slow Art Day. When people look slowly at a piece of art they make new discoveries. MMAM will offer a variety of activities that will help you slow down, enjoy art and find something new. As always, Second Saturdays are only $1.

Activities for Slow Art Day include a Longer Look Tour, which is a 30-minute seated tour that will take an in-depth look at two artworks in the museum’s permanent collections by artists Marc Chagall and Daniel Ridgway Knight, while the MMAM Highlight Tour offers an orientation to the museum’s collections. Art-making activities offer hands-on experiences for all ages and abilities. This month’s projects include hand-weaving and pointillism painting. Every month’s event features live music in the galleries, with Noah Short performing from 11:00AM-12:00PM and Tsunxmi from 2:00-3:00PM. A special Slow Art Challenge asks visitors to choose from 10 artworks, and take 3-5 minutes to look at that piece closely and then reflect on it. Artist Anna Metcalfe, whose exhibition Upstream is on display now, will host two tea conversations using her handmade tea set while sharing stories of the Mississippi River. This opportunity is free, and participants who reserve their seat will be able to take home their own tea cup featuring stories of the River. Call the Museum at 507-474-6626 to register for the 10:30AM or 1:00PM tea conversation. For a full schedule of events, go to www.mmam.org/secondsaturdays.
