New Opportunities through the Winona Fine Arts Commission

Winona Fine Arts Commission Grants

The Winona Fine Arts Commission (FAC) Grants Program has launched with an immediate call for submissions. The FAC will be awarding grants to create art about or inspired by our fair city. All creative, visual, or performing artists who are Winona residents (or are enrolled as a full-time student at a Winona institution) are invited to apply for grants up to $1,000. Resulting artworks or creative projects will be installed or performed in a municipal space in Winona. Successful applicants must complete artworks by October 31, 2020. Completed applications are due Monday, September 30, 2019 at 4pm. (Applications are available on the FAC website.)

The Winona Fine Arts Commission Grants are a return to awarding funding to artists and providing opportunity, which the FAC had previously provided for many years. Grant applications will be reviewed and evaluated using criterion focusing on proven ability to complete projects and level of excellence in their given disciplines. Artists working within any and all creative fields and at any stage in their artistic career are encouraged to apply. Council Chair Theresa Remick and the FAC are very excited to be providing this opportunity for creative expression to the community.

Winona Fine Arts Creative Laureate

The Winona Fine Arts Commission (FAC), with the approval of the City Council, is announcing a new creative position for the City—the Winona Creative Laureate. The Creative Laureate position is a re-imagining of the Poet Laureate position to reflect the full spectrum of creative energy and disciplines in Winona.

Appointed by the Winona Fine Arts Commission, the Creative Laureate will serve as an ambassador for Winona’s creative community. The Creative Laureate will be actively involved in creative pursuits and the creation of work, and will maintain an active presence throughout the community by interacting with fellow artists, governmental bodies, and the public.

The Creative Laureate will elevate the arts and creativity by encouraging public presentations of creative work. The Creative Laureate may work in any creative medium or artistic discipline, and will be able to demonstrate extensive experience and advancement in their field. The Creative Laureate will receive a stipend of $1,000 per year, paid annually. In addition, the Creative Laureate may request funds from the City and/or Commission for the creation of the creative work related to Winona, and for any works commissioned by the Fine Arts Commission or City of Winona, subject to approval of the Commission.

The Creative Laureate will serve a three-year term, commencing upon appointment. The following is a direct link to the Creative Laureate application: cityofwinona.wufoo.com/forms/mwza5ai0qkz3fx/
