SUMMARY:Carlson Memorial Concert at Central Lutheran
DESCRIPTION:Central Lutheran Church | 259 W Wabasha St. \nOn Oct. 29\, Central Lutheran Church will host the James K. Carlson Memorial Concert. Jim and Mary Ellen Carlson were long-time residents of Winona who contributed greatly to the musical community. Jim passed away in March 2020 at the age of 95. As part of his estate\, Carlson wished to gift a memorial concert to the Winona community honoring the couple’s musical legacy. \nThe program will feature three works: Requiem by Gabriel Fauré\, The Trumpet Shall Sound (from Messiah) by George Frideric Handel\, and the world premiere of Life Love Music by A. Eric Heukeshoven commissioned for the event. Soloists\, chorus\, and orchestra will be conducted by Dr. Harry A. Mechell\, Professor Emeritus from Winona State University. The concert will also be live-streamed via Central Lutheran’s Facebook page. Learn more.

SUMMARY:Opposable Thumbs Concert at Winona Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:Winona Arts Center | 228 E 5th St.\nwinonaarts.org \nThe Winona Arts Center is pleased to present an evening of music with Opposable Thumbs on Saturday\, October 29. Opposable Thumbs last performed in the beginning of the new millennium. The group still consists of Wayne Beezley on mandolin and octave mandolin; Rick Sampson on banjo\, guitar and mandolin; and Betsy Neil on fiddle; and new bass player\, Larry Dalton. This is an all-instrumental group featuring well-crafted originals and new acoustic music from favorite new acoustic string bands. The concert will open with Sampson and Son\, Rick Sampson and his son Aric Sampson. Larry Dalton will perform with them as well. \nThe concert begins at 7 pm and coffeehouse opens at 6 pm. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Learn more.
