SUMMARY:Tibetan Singing Bowls Meditation at WAC
DESCRIPTION:Winona Arts Center | 228 E 5th St.\nwinonaarts.org \nTibetan singing bowls produce sounds that invite deep states of relaxation\, enhancing the ability to meditate and enter expanded states of consciousness. The sounds and vibrations can create a sense of grounding\, facilitating a connection to the deepest parts of our being\, and opening the door to powerful healing. This is an opportunity for exploration and renewal in the presence of ageless bell sounds. Joan Filla is a local physician who was introduced to Tibetan singing bowls while recovering from long standing trauma. Singing bowls and meditation became an integral part of her journey and she hopes to share these powerful tools with others. The event is limited to 40 attendees. Pre-registration is required. SUMMARY:Figure Drawing Exhibit Opening
DESCRIPTION:Winona Arts Center | 228 E 5th St.\nwinonaarts.org \nThe Winona Arts Center is happy to host our Figure Drawing Circle Exhibit Opening on Sunday\, September 15 from 1:00-4:00. The figure drawing group meets weekly at the Arts Center and we are excited to display their work. The exhibit runs from September 15 through October 27. \nThroughout the ages\, the center of art has been the human form. Our brains are hardwired to seek out connections with our fellow humans — two dots and a curved line become a smiling face\, we can see people in the shapes of clouds and shadows. Whether crude stick figures\, near photographic renderings\, chiseled sculptures\, or artistic abstractions\, the human body has been a continual source of artistic inspiration. The tradition continues and Figure Drawing carries on that sense of artistic wonder. Learn more.

SUMMARY:WAC Film Under the Fig Trees
DESCRIPTION:Winona Arts Center | 228 E 5th St.\nwinonaarts.org \nThe Winona Arts Center is showing a great film by Erige Sehiri entitled Under the Fig Trees on September 13 at 7:00. Cost is $5 at the door. The gallery opens at 6:00. \nOn a hot summer night\, a crew of workers arrive in a fig orchard in northwest Tunisia. Through sun-drenched leaves\, the youngest of the women steal precious moments away from the foreman’s watchful gaze. Meanwhile\, the elders\, tasked with the careful job of packing the tender fruit\, watch them and reminisce. This is a portrait of everyday life in which class and circumstance do not allow for personal freedoms but where sisterhood serves as a transformative act of resistance. Learn more.

I like this life much better!” Learn more at the artist’s website\, dianefosterart.com. An opening reception with light refreshments provided will take place from 5-8 pm on Friday\, August 23.
