DESCRIPTION:Winona Arts Center | 228 E 5th St.\nwinonaarts.org \nThe Winona Arts Center is pleased to offer a 9-tile pottery class with Richard Spiller\, local potter\, on Saturday\, April 15. Students will be given nine 4-inch earthenware clay tiles on a board. They will draw on each tile and then apply colored slips and clear glaze. Students can bring their own design or trace designs that are provided. Tiles will be fired at Spiller’s studio and returned at a later date. Cost is $30 for WAC members and $35 for non-members. Sgraffito (in Italian meaning “to scratch”) is a technique produced by applying a drawing to a hard red clay pottery piece and then scratching off parts of the layer to create contrasting images and patterns to reveal the clay color underneath. Tasked with arranging her mother’s funeral according to her family’s traditional expectations\, Sarah navigates her plans to relocate while grappling with the bookstore. \nAided by an ensemble of Eastern European neighbors\, opinionated aunties\, and a no-nonsense ex con-employee\, Sarah must face all her responsibilities while remaining true to herself. His peaceful\, cyclical existence is given meaning by the essential role he plays in transporting people\, livestock and goods across the water. When news arrives that a bridge is being built upstream\, Toichi finds his life transformed in the name of progress. The sudden arrival of a young girl brings one more dimension to his life.
