DESCRIPTION:Central Lutheran Church | 259 W Wabasha St. \nThe Rochester Area Handbells are coming to Winona for a free and fun afternoon of music for the whole family at 3 pm Saturday\, May 13\, 2023\, at Central Lutheran Church\, 259 W Wabasha St. The ringers will be assisted by Aaron Lohmeyer\, saxophone\, Janet Heukeshoven and Heidi Bryant\, flute\, Hans Heukeshoven\, drums\, and Central’s Director of Worship\, Music\, & Arts – Eric Heukeshoven playing jazz organ. At 2 pm\, Central will host an informal info session for all who are interested in how a handbell choir works with an eye towards the creation of a Winona-based community handbell choir. Learn more.

SUMMARY:Messiah Sing-In
DESCRIPTION:Central Lutheran Church | 259 W Wabasha St. \nFor nearly 30 years\, the Messiah Sing-In has been the unofficial start of Winona’s Christmas season. After a three-year hiatus\, Central Lutheran Church will once again host the Messiah Sing-In on Saturday\, December 3rd at 7:00 pm. The performance by orchestra\, choir\, and soloists will feature local musicians as well as the renowned North Star Boys’ Choir. And members of the audience will once again lift their voices to favorite selections from Part One of Handel’s magnificent oratorio\, Messiah!   \nTo enable all to attend\, the event will be free and open to the public. All proceeds collected from a suggested $10 donation will be given to support the Winona Community Warming Center. Learn more.

SUMMARY:Carlson Memorial Concert at Central Lutheran
DESCRIPTION:Central Lutheran Church | 259 W Wabasha St. \nOn Oct. 29\, Central Lutheran Church will host the James K. Carlson Memorial Concert. Jim and Mary Ellen Carlson were long-time residents of Winona who contributed greatly to the musical community. Jim passed away in March 2020 at the age of 95. As part of his estate\, Carlson wished to gift a memorial concert to the Winona community honoring the couple’s musical legacy. \nThe program will feature three works: Requiem by Gabriel Fauré\, The Trumpet Shall Sound (from Messiah) by George Frideric Handel\, and the world premiere of Life Love Music by A. Eric Heukeshoven commissioned for the event. Soloists\, chorus\, and orchestra will be conducted by Dr. Harry A. Mechell\, Professor Emeritus from Winona State University. The concert will also be live-streamed via Central Lutheran’s Facebook page. Learn more.
