SUMMARY:RAA Announces Reception for Driftless: A Curated Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, Dec 6 | 1-3 pm\nWinona County History Center\n160 Johnson Street | Winona \nJoin RAA for the opening reception of Driftless: A Curated Exhibit\, featuring artwork inspired by the driftless region along the great Mississippi river. Light refreshments will\nbe served. \nMany artists throughout Minnesota and the surrounding driftless region submitted worksfor consideration in the exhibit. A selection of those submissions\, curated by former and current RAA board members\, will be on display at the Winona County History Center\, December 6\, 2025 – February 27\, 2026. \nThe driftless region along the great Mississippi river stretches from southeastern Minnesota and southwestern Wisconsin to the connecting borders of Iowa and Illinois. This region has long been a source of inspiration for adventurers and artists\, inspiring curiosity and shaping a multitude of perspectives — especially those expressed through the visual arts. \nHelp us celebrate the work that has emerged from artists inspired by the majestic\nbeauty of our driftless area. \nUnable to make the reception? We encourage you to view the RAA exhibit during its run at the Winona County History Center\, 10 am to 4 pm daily.

SUMMARY:Minnesconsin: Dick Lano’s photography of the Winona area in the 1970s
DESCRIPTION:September 14\, 2025  | 1:00 -3:00 PM\nWinona County History Center\n160 Johnson St\, Winona MN \nThe Winona County History Center will be opening a new exhibit in the Collection Corridor Gallery. Minnesconsin: Dick Lano’s photography of the\nWinona area in the 1970s will open with a reception on Sunday\, September 14\, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. \nMinnesconsin is a state of mind that spans a river like a bridge connecting Minnesota and Wisconsin. Richard (Dick) Lano operated a photography studio and took many images of the area and its community members. This new exhibit highlights his portraits\, nature\, landscapes\, Winona sites\, photojournalism\, and more. \nDick was born and raised in Winona\, as was his wife Betsy (Burleigh) Lano. In the 1970s they moved their family across the river to Bluff Siding. There he and his family built a home and he operated a photography studio at the entrance to the valley near Wisconsin State Highway 35. Dick picked up photography as a youth and began documenting his trips to the Boundary Waters and out West\, his hometown\, his friends\, and the “Minnesconsin” region. This exhibit offers a retrospective of Dick’s work mostly from the 1970s. It affords us insight into the evolution of his artistic vision from amateur to professional. \nThe opening reception is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Short remarks will be made at 2:00 p.m. by community curators of the exhibit. \n \nLearn more and plan your visit at winonahistory.org or call 507-454-2723
