Thern and his wife\, Lucille\, during the post World War II boom\, Thern Incorporated began with a handful of basic winches and other miscellaneous tools. More than 70 years later\, Thern has built a solid reputation for manufacturing the most dependable\, powerful\, and durable solutions for moving loads of all sizes. Faust Sonnet Contest is a celebration of the winners\, hosted in person and online. The public is invited to attend this fun event on Saturday\, July 15th at 11:00 am at the Winona County History Center. (It can also be viewed online on the Maria W. Faust Sonnet Contest’s Facebook page.) Winning sonnets will be read by the poets over Zoom and by the contest’s judges. Following the event\, the winning sonnets will be published on the website: sonnetcontest.org. \nWhat started as a local contest sponsored by Winona’s First Poet Laureate and the Great River Shakespeare Festival has grown into an international phenomenon with a reach far beyond our community. Paintings and Drawings of Vernacular Buildings by Paul Burmeister will be shown January 6 – February 19. \nThe acrylic paintings in this show are built up very slowly\, from initial drawing to final adjustments\, using many\, mostly thin layers of transparent-to-translucent-to-opaque color. Regional\, vernacular building types have become a priority for the artist in the last decade. In 1898\, William and Ann Willet incorporated the Willet Stained Glass in Pittsburgh\, Penn. In 1977\, Willet Hauser Architectural Glass was formed through a merger with Willet Stained Glass and Hauser Art Glass Company in Winona.
