Rooted in the Land Exhibit Opening Reception

Thursday | January 23 | 4:30-6:30pm
People's Food Co-op | 519 First Ave | Rochester

Rooted In The Land: paintings of women farmers in Southeastern MN by artist Julie Johnston is currently on exhibit at the People's Co-op in Rochester, MN. You are invited to the opening reception with the artist. Refreshments will be served.  Free and open to the public.

Julie Johnston traveled the region interviewing and capturing images of women farmers. Her paintings highlight the multiple aspects of farm work these contemporary women farmers do. Johnston's art sheds light on the impact women farmers have in nurturing and feeding their communities. Johnston feels this project is a way to celebrate these historically “invisible” farmers.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts & cultural heritage fund.

Methodist Ham Ball Dinner

Saturday | February 1 | 11:30am-1:00pm
Wesley United Methodist Church

The Charles Wesley Center for Sacred Music and Arts will again offer a Methodist Ham Ball dinner at the Wesley UMC. The menu is Methodist Ham Balls with Charlie’s Cheesy Potatoes, drink, and dessert for $12.00. Tickets are available at Midtown Foods and at the door. Takeout will be available in containers that can be washed and re-used.

Proceeds from the ham ball dinner power the work of the Charles Wesley Center for Sacred Music and Arts, which uses music and the arts to bring people together for experiences of grace. The CWC has made a point of showcasing regional choral music, The Heartstings Harp Circle, bell ringers, organists, pianists, vocalists, and instrumentalists from several regional churches and groups have taken their turn in the acoustically live sanctuary. Visual artists will also displayed their work. The hope is that people from many churches and faith groups may benefit from a stimulated interest in sacred music and the arts. Food itself is an art form, and the cooks at Wesley United Methodist Church are offering a delightful way to support people of faith who are expressing themselves through the arts.
