Be present in the moment and channel your creativity through written and visual expression, learning techniques in drawing, painting, and mixed media. This self-paced course provides 8 weekly emails containing journaling techniques and mindfulness prompts to inspire your creativity. Finish the course with a zoom social to share what you learned and, if you’re brave, show off your work!

Vintage Valentines - Free Zoom Art Class

Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) in partnership with the Winona County History Center, invites community members aged 6-106 to join a free virtual art class. The live class will be delivered via Zoom on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2:00-3:00 pm. Free Vintage Valentine’s Day Kits can be picked up at The Winona County History Center Feb. 4 – Feb. 13 while supplies last. Joining from a distance or don’t have time to grab a kit before class? Participate by using Valentines items from home while you learn some card-making tips to create a valentine for someone special in your life.

Local writers are invited to bring a short piece of your writing to share with us. As always, feel free to use these prompts, change them, or ignore them and write your own idea. For this meeting, we will not have printed copies of each other's work. We will read aloud, then share verbal comments and suggestions.

February Prompts:

  • At the beginning of February, some cultures celebrate the return of light, but February remains a fairly dark, snowy month here in Minnesota. For this prompt, write about color--maybe your favorite color, a memory of colors, or even lack of color in a winter world.
  • Try starting a scene with the following sentence: I saw a message in a bottle.
