Poet Mai’a Williams to Read at the Book Shelf
On Tuesday, April 5th, poet, journalist, anthologist and social activist Mai’a Williams will read from her poetry as part of the Laureate Writers Series. The reading will be held at the Book Shelf, 162 W.2nd St., Winona, and will begin at 7pm. After a short break and book signing, there will be an open mic.
Mai’a Williams is the author of two chapbooks of poetry, No God but Ghosts and Monsters and Other Silent Creatures. She published Revolutionary Motherhood, an anthology about mothering on the margins, which became the inspiration for Revolutionary Mothering: Love on the Front Lines, which has just been published. She has also been active in theatre, directing experimental plays focused on social justice. Ms. Williams has also been a print and radio journalist and community organizer in Minneapolis, Ecuador, Cairo, Jerusalem, Palestine, Berlin and Mexico. She lives in Winona with her daughter Theresa.
