Bookbinding Workshop: Sewn Boards Book
Instructor: Jill Krase | Saturday | March 18 | 12:30pm–4pm
This workshop is your chance to learn how to make a versatile hard cover book. Everyone will take home a finished but blank book that you can then have fun filling with watercolor paintings, drawings, creative writing, journal, photos, etc. Choose from a variety of decorated papers for your covers. Text pages will be watercolor paper so you can use wet media later if you want. Tools and materials needed for the workshop will be provided. No previous bookbinding experience is necessary. Class size limited to 12 participants.
The book we will make is called a sewn-boards book because the covers are sewn along with the pages instead of being glued on later. The result is visible sewing that makes the stitches holding the book together an essential element of the book design. The way the book is put together allows it to lay completely at while you are painting or reading. Using the techniques you learn during the workshop, you can then make additional books on your own in the future.
The workshop will be hosted by Crossings in Zumbrota. Call 507-732-7616 to register. Visit www.crossingsatcarnegie.com for more information.
