Jim Armstrong to Present “Works In Progress”
At 7pm on Tuesday, March 7th, Jim Armstrong will read from his latest poetry and perform some of the songs he is writing for a SEMAC-funded project about his grandfather. The audience will get an inside look at the creative process. The presentation will take place at the Blue Heron Coffee House.
James Armstrong has published poems in Orion, The Snowy Egret, The New York Times Book Review, Shade, Poetry East, and elsewhere. He is the author of two books of poetry, Monument in a Summer Hat (New Issues Press, 1999) and Blue Lash (Milkweed Editions, 2006) and is the co-author of a book of essays, Nature, Culture and Two Friends Talking (North Star Press 2015). Armstrong is a recipient of the PEN-New England Discovery Prize, an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship and a Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship in poetry. He is a Professor of English at Winona State University. He was Winona’s first Poet Laureate.
This performance is part of FIRST TUESDAY: The Laureate Writers Series. The event is free and open to the public, and will be followed by an open mic.
