Laureate Writers Series – September 2018
Poet Leslie Schultz to Read at Blue Heron
Tuesday | September 4 | 7:00-9:30pm
Blue Heron Coffeehouse | 162 W 2nd
For September’s Laureate Writers Series, poet, fiction writer and essayist Leslie Schultz will read from her new collection of poetry, Cloud Song. The program will begin at 7pm. After a short break and book signing, there will be an open mic. The theme for the open mic is Truth. The program is free and open to the public.
Leslie Schultz is the author of a previous collection of poetry, Still Life with Poppies: Elegies, as well as a chapbook, Living Room, and two middle-grade novels. Her work has appeared widely in journals and anthologies, and one of her haiku was included in the payload of NASA’s MAVEN mission and is currently orbiting the red planet. She lives in Northfield, Minnesota. Emilio DeGrazia has said of her work “Now, when so much contemporary poetry is mired in egocentricity, it is refreshing — and important — that in Leslie Schultz’s work the I dissolves to discover the am.” Stella Nesanovich says of Cloud Song, “I celebrate this beautiful collection of poems from Leslie Schultz: her skill, the precision of her language and meter. These are stunning poems that witness adventure, awaken the senses, and reach the heart of the reader.”
This event is co-sponsored by the Blue Heron Coffeehouse and the Winona Fine Arts Commission.
The Laureate Writer’s Series is sponsored by the City of Winona’s Fine Arts Commission. The City of Winona is a partner of River Arts Alliance.
