Winona State University
Adam Vines is giving a poetry reading as part of the Great River Reading Series. His most recent book, Out of Speech, is a collection of poems written in response to works of art. From Matisse to Rothko, Notre Dame to the lonely rooms of Edward Hopper, Vines’ poems breathe life into the paintings so that we may feel art fully live in us. His earlier book, The Coal Life, explores his roots in the mining country of Appalachia. Adam Vines lives in Birmingham, AL, where he edits Black Warrior Review and teaches at University of Alabama-Birmingham.
