Laureate Writers Series – January 2019

Poet Dan Dietrich

Tuesday | January 8 | 7:00pm
Blue Heron Coffeehouse

Dan Dietrich will read from his first book of poetry, Homestead. This reading is part of “First Tuesday,” the Laureate Writers Series, and is free and open to the public. The reading will be followed by an open mic—open to anyone, veteran or novice. The theme for the open mic will be BORDERS.

Daniel Dietrich’s stories have received awards from St. Martin’s Press, the Outdoor Writers Association of America and the Minnesota Arts Board. He and his wife live in the Driftless Area of southeastern Minnesota. He is a devotee of Thoreau’s journals, wood heat and yellow labs. His poems have appeared in Poetry Celebration, Applause and Poet-Artist Collaboration. Homestead is his first collection.

“A naturalist of the hidden world of ordinary things, Dietrich knows how to bring it home, how to close. In some endings, the entire poem flashes through the reader as if starting and finishing all at once. Time ceases its linearity. To my mind, this is what the best poetry does. This is a golden collection, all of a piece…powerful and moving.”

—Novelist P.S. Duffy, author of The Cartographer of No Man’s Land.

This event is co-sponsored by the Blue Heron Coffeehouse and the Winona Fine Arts Commission.

The Laureate Writer’s Series is sponsored by the City of Winona’s Fine Arts Commission. The City of Winona is a partner of River Arts Alliance.
