The Winona Main Street Program is seeking artist submissions for “Third Space,” a series a installations or programming that will be held outside on Third Street in Downtown Winona from May-October. Funding up to $1000 each for approximately 12 projects is available, but artists must attend this workshop in order to be eligible to apply. Artists who attended last year’s training are also welcome to apply, and do not need to attend this year’s training if they are unable to.

Third Space is part of Artists on Main Street, a partnership between the Winona Main Street Program, Preservation Alliance of Minnesota and Springboard for the Arts, with support from the Bush Foundation. The goal of Third Space is to create free programming for the public to be held outside on Third Street between Center Street and Lafayette Street, to encourage outdoor activity downtown beyond the borders of Levee Park and to encourage foot traffic in the downtown business district. This artist-led placemaking initiative is meant to be varied, from passive programming to interactive events, and include a broad cross-section of Winona’s population from youth to seniors, and may be focused on one specific part of the population.

All artists are encouraged to apply, including people who don’t view themselves as “traditional” artists or enjoy art-based activities as a hobby. There will be approximately 12 projects funded at $1000 awarded, featuring smaller events as well as two to three signature events that will be awarded a slightly higher amount.

Anyone with interest in applying is required to attend this free training work shop.
