Laureate Series: Poet William Stobb
Tuesday | October 1 | 7:00pm
Blue Heron Coffeehouse | 162 E 2nd St
Poet William Stobb will read at the October Laureate Series event. He will present work from his new collection You Are Still Alive (2019, 42 Miles Press). His previous titles include the National Poetry Series Selection, Nervous Systems, and Absentia, both from Penguin Books. Stobb’s poems appear in American Poetry Review, Colorado Review, Denver Quarterly, DIAGRAM, Kenyon Review, New Orleans Review, and many other journals. He works on the editorial staff of Conduit, and teaches on the Creative Writing faculty at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse. As a side project, Stobb records experimental audio versions of some of his published works. These appear in Volta, Medium, and TextSound, and are collected on his Soundcloud page. Amy Gerstler says, of You Are Still Alive, “It’s as though the reader had been dropped into the mind of a loving, funny, humble, infinitely generous, nimble-minded Buddhist monk brought up on classic science fiction. The monk’s musings honor the marvelous strangeness of each passing moment, never losing sight of the yawning maw of the dubious future.”
This event is co-sponsored by the Laureate Writers Series, the River Arts Alliance, Great River Writes, and the City of Winona.
The Laureate Writer’s Series is sponsored by the City of Winona’s Fine Arts Commission. The City of Winona is a partner of River Arts Alliance.
