MCA 2021 Summer Dance Intensive Auditions

Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) is excited to announce that we will be offering an 18th annual Summer Dance Intensive. The 2021 Intensive will be virtual with the potential for an in-person determined by COVID circumstances. We offer a wonderful well-rounded and personal experience for intermediate and advanced dancers ages 12-25.

Dancers interested in attending the MCA Summer Dance Intensive are invited to attend a virtual audition on Sunday, March 21, 12:30-2:30pm or send in a video. Please explore the schedule and Q&A on our website for more information and don’t hesitate to contact us at mca@smumn.edu.

The intensive will run July 5 – July 31, 2021 (with an option to attend 2 weeks or 4 weeks)

Please plan to arrive online around 5 minutes prior to audition warmed up and focused. Please make sure you take a moment to ensure your first name and last name are listed under your profile or “rename”, if needed. The audition will be separated into two portions. A ballet session lead by MCA’s Director of Dance, Tammy Schmidt and followed by contemporary dance with Jessica Dienger. Unfortunately, due to many participants joining from in-home studios which may not have adequate flooring, pointe work will not be a part of this year’s audition.
To ensure success, make sure that you are dressed for success (leotard, tights, ballet shoes and hair-up, leggings can be added for the contemporary portion). Also make sure you have a water bottle near and that you downloaded Zoom prior to the audition.

We know that everyone’s dancing space is different, but if you are able to set the camera somewhere that allows the instructors to view the dancer’s entire body and has sufficient lighting, that is ideal. Students who are considering attending Saint Mary’s University of MN in the fall and would like to be considered for a dance scholarship should also bring a dance resume and photo to be included with their audition form.

• Winona, MN– TBA. Only for current MCA Student enrolled in Ballet IV-VII (Dancers will be notified)

*Please note that any student who has previously participated in MCA’s SDI is invited back at 25% discounted rate off tuition fees and is not required to attend auditions unless they want to be considered for a talent-based scholarship for the Intensive or for a dance scholarship for Saint Mary’s University of MN. Those who were accepted to the 2020 summer program, but were unable to attend are not required to audition unless they would like to be considered for a scholarship.
