Opportunity to Comment on Winona’s Arts & Culture Strategic Plan

A message from River Arts Alliance member Margaret Johnson:

Dear RAA Members,

Please be notified that the proposed Arts and Culture plan has now been completed and will soon go to the city council for consideration and hopefully adoption.  The plan is the result of a 2-year effort that began when the city commissioned a $65,000 study of the arts and their potential for Winona for a 10-year period.  A local steering committee was convened to work closely with national consultants from the Cultural Planning Group.  Over 1000 interviews were conducted with people from all sectors of our community to get their views on what the future of the arts in Winona can and should be.  These citizen views resulted in the plan that is now proposed for adoption.  It is an important aspirational document that has the potential to shape the role of arts and culture in Winona for a decade.

The proposed plan, and a shorter Executive Summary of the plan is now, and until February 8 will be posted on the city website for review and public comment.  Comments will be gathered by staff and submitted to the consultants for consideration.  This shortened public comment period is warranted because of the two years that have already been spent gathering public input.  Here is a link to the site on the city website:

Please note that information you provide here will not go directly to the city council, as this is not an advocacy effort.  Instead it is a final opportunity to comment on the plan and its particulars.  We will be putting out a call for those who support the plan to help advocate for it.  The Steering Committee will provide some information and suggestions about that quite soon.

Sincerely,

Margaret Johnson

Chairperson of the Arts & Culture Steering Committee
