A special celebration of Juneteenth will take place this Wednesday, June 19th, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Windom Park in Winona, MN. This marks the 4th annual Juneteenth event organized and hosted by Our Voices in partnership with Theatre du Mississippi with support from ROAR

Juneteenth: A Brief Overview
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. The day marks June 19, 1865, when General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, with news that the Civil War had ended and that enslaved people were free—more than two years after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
