Laureate Writers Series Presents Patrick Cabello Hansel
Tuesday | July 2 | 7 pm
Blue Heron Coffeehouse | 162 W 2nd St.
Patrick Cabello Hansel will be the featured writer for the Laureates Writers Series program for Tuesday, July 2.
As an artist Hansel has worked in photography, drama, mosaic, and creative writing. For many years he also worked as Lutheran pastor and artist at inner city churches in the Bronx and Philadelphia. He currently lives close to the George Floyd murder scene, and uses his passion for the arts for personal and community transformation.
Writer Thomas R. Smith says this about Hansel: “Living near the epicenter of the tumultuous events of 2020…he turns out to be the perfect chronicler of that year. His poems in Breathing in Minneapolis miraculously keep their lyricism while maintaining fidelity to fact.”
Hansel is the author of several poetry collections, with Breathing in Minneapolis one of ten on a list of finalists for a Society of Midlands Authors contest award. He is also editor of a literary journal by and for the diverse community members of Minneapolis, and has taught creative writing for elementary and high school students, and for senior citizens.
The Laureates Series is sponsored by the Blue Heron Coffeehouse, by Shipwreckt Books and Chapter Two Books of Winona, and by Friends of the Winona Public Library. The program begins at 7 pm and takes place at the Blue Heron Coffeehouse. An open mic session will follow Hansel’s program.
