The Winona Arts Center at 228 East 5th Street is thrilled to have Preston Lawing teach a 3-day workshop on Dry Point Etching. The classes will be held on Wednesdays, November 13, 20, and December 4 from 5:30-7:30 pm.

Preston Lawing is an award winning professor and collaborative printmaker who has worked and exhibited with numerous artists and printers for over forty years. Preston Lawing taught at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota for 24 years, retiring in 2021 as Professor Emeritus in the department of Art and Design.

He will introduce participants to the technique of drypoint etching, covering both the practical aspects of creating prints and the historical context of the medium. Participants will learn how to prepare their plates, execute etchings, work safely in a printmaking studio, and understand the significance of drypoint in art history.

Participants do not need to have strong drawing skills, but a willingness to explore different marking choices which should provide lifelong joy of this simple, but elegant process.

Due to the technical information and processes covered, this course is suited for artists 18 and up.

The cost is $150 for 3 classes. Registration is required. Sign up with Jen at jsbenson50@gmail.com and send your check to Winona Arts Center, 228 East 5th Street, or drop off in the mail slot on Franklin Street.
