Aspiring sewists are invited to develop their garment-making skills in the upcoming workshop led by instructor Lindsay Krage. Participants will learn the basics of sewing a beginner-friendly garment using the size-inclusive Ruby Vest pattern by Syd Graham Patterns. The workshop will cover essential skills including pattern preparation, sizing, basic terminology, and the process of following pattern directions.

This comprehensive two-day event will be held on Saturday, April 5, and Sunday, April 6, from 9:00 am to 4:00 p.m. daily at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM), located at 800 Riverview Drive, Winona, Minnesota.

Some sewing experience is required, though no prior garment sewing is necessary. Advanced sewers may work with embellishment techniques such as quilting, embroidery, or chain stitching.

Tuition for the workshop is $250 per participant, with a discounted MMAM member rate of $240, and prior registration is required. Tuition will cover quilt batting, embroidery thread, sewing needles, bias tape, marking tools, pins, and quilting rulers. Participants will need to bring their own sewing machine, fabric scissors, exterior and interior fabric, and thread. The Ruby Vest Sewing Pattern ($16) will need to be purchased separately, though MMAM will print it for participants with proof of purchase.

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum is a nonprofit art museum that creates meaningful art experiences that explore our relationship with water. Located in Winona, Minnesota, the purpose-built museum is located on the banks of the Mississippi River and boasts six galleries, an educational and events space, and a destination retail shop on its seven acre riverside campus. It is through this surprising diversity that MMAM is not only describing what marine art is, but pushing the boundaries of what marine art can be.
