Great River Writes – January Winona Writers Group Meeting
Friday | January 14 | 3:00-4:30pm
Winona Public Library | 151 W 5th St.
Great River Writes writers group is returning to Winona Public Library for our meetings this year. These will be in-person meetings only, with no Zoom option.
Our next meeting is January 14, from 3:00 to 4:30. Please note the time change!
We’ll be in the meeting room right off the Art Room, where the CD’s and DVD’s used to be.
Bring a copy of your writing that you wish to share (up to 2000 words). Optionally, bring 4 or 5 extra copies to share with participants. The library staff no longer can make copies for the group.
As always, feel free to use the prompts below, change them, or ignore them and write your own idea. We will read aloud, then share verbal comments and suggestions.
January Prompts:
- My grand-daughter is preparing for her sophomore cotillion. She has the dress, the hair appointment, even a party limo planned: way more involved than any high school function I ever attended. Write about a special event in your life (or in a character’s life). This could be a detailed description of setting and people, or it could be a trip down memory lane. Your choice.
- These days we text as often as we call people. Write a vignette that relies only on dialogue (as in a phone call) to convey the action.
Great River Writes is a partnership of River Arts Alliance, the La Crosse Public Library and the Winona Public Library.
