Poet and Naturalist Dan Butterfass to Read at Blue Heron

Dan Butterfass, of Rochester, will be the featured writer for the Laureates Writers Series on October 1 at the Blue Heron Coffeehouse at 7 pm. He will read from his debut book Aerie, recently published by Shipwreckt Books of Winona. Because of the Vice-Presidential Debate, there will not be an open mic after Dan’s presentation.

Butterfass has lived in Rochester with his wife, Ellen, for the past three decades, where they have raised three children. When not working in the Med City, he lives in a two-room cabin in the blufflands of southeastern Minnesota. There he wanders the bluffs and valleys with his yellow Lab Oshie, immersing himself in the study of the natural world.  Much of his work reflects his thinking, in solitude, about this world.

Butterfass holds an MFA in poetry from the Vermont College of Fine Arts, and has made his living as a college English instructor, freelance outdoors writer, bookstore owner, and entrepreneur in the field of tourism. Aerie spans a quarter century of his writing life.
