The Laureate Writers Series will feature an open mic session for its November 6th meeting at the Blue Heron Coffeehouse. The program, normally held on the first Tuesday of every month, will meet at 7 pm on the first Wednesday of November in order to avoid conflicting with election night.

The open mic program was scheduled in response to an earlier one that proved very popular. At open mic sessions writers young and old are invited to share original poetry or short prose pieces with members of the audience. No prizes will be awarded.

“The response at our last open mic session was very positive,” says Ken McCullough, one of the program’s co-directors, “not only because so many stepped forward to be heard but because what they expressed was so well-crafted and enthusiastically received by the audience. People have wonderful things to say, and they are not afraid to step up and share them with us.”

The Laureates Writers Series is sponsored by the Blue Heron Coffeehouse, by Shipwreckt Books and Chapter Two Books of Winona, and by Friends of the Winona Public Library. The program begins at 7 pm and takes place at the Blue Heron Coffeehouse, which serves beverages and treats.
