Lost Lake Folk Opera V10 – United We Write – Winter Of ICE–2025 & 2026
The latest release from Shipwreckt Books Publishing of Winona, Minnesota, “A Literary Struggle to Preserve our Democratic Republic,” started twelve months ago with the theme United We Write. Three hundred twenty poets, playwrights, writers of all stripes submitted work from the U.S. and around the world in response to the reelection and actions of President Trump.
Twenty-five contributors from the Metro area, plus five from Greater Minnesota, dozens from around the country, as well as from an award-winning Iranian filmmaker, who survived the recent deadly government crackdown in Tehran, and from an American reporting from Kiev and Odessa are among the sixty artists included in this fifteenth issue of Shipwreck’s flagship literary anthology in thirteen years.
When Operation Metro Surge began in December, we delayed publication and did not finalize the galley until mid-February, after collecting “Breaking Art,” poems and essays from writers directly involved on the ground in Minneapolis.
This anthology demonstrates the importance of literature in the fight for democracy and social justice. The voices of these diverse contributors speak to our collective responsibility to pursue justice and equity, to act in the common interest of our communities, to pass the mic to marginalized groups, and to keep working to achieve this and more through the power of words.
There is a surge of material following the ICE invasion but hope you will not find this duplicative. It’s not. What makes Folk Opera V10 different is our capacity. This is an 8.5” x 11” publication tipping the scales at 198 pages. We have established a national and worldwide literary catchment. The broader perspective on America, MAGA, tyranny, oppression, and immigration provide relevance. It is compelling. And it is homegrown thanks to an innovative, award-winning indie press.
