Symphony Fall Concert~Mendelssohn Melodies: A Sibling Symphony

Come join the Winona Symphony as they start the new 2026-27 season “Musical Journeys” with a spectacular concert featuring the Mendelssohn Italian Symphony (Symphony #4), a violin concert by Bruch performed by concertmistress Hillary Kingsley and Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel’s Overture in C Major.

The performance will take place at the beautiful Wesley United Methodist Church (downtown Winona) at 7:30 PM with a conductor’s chat starting at 7 PM. Conductor Erik Rohde’s pre-concert talks offer an insider’s scoop on the music and composers, come early so you don’t miss it!

The Mendelssohn Italian Symphony is one of his most familiar and frequently performed works, a favorite of both performers and audiences. The Max Bruch Violin Concerto #1 in G minor was composed in 1866 is one of the most popular violin concertos ever written, many believe it to me one of the best compositions of the Romantic period. The Hensel Overture in C was composed when she was only in her mid-20’s and Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel conducted the first performance. It was in 1992 that the work was rediscovered and recorded by the Women’s Philharmonic led by Jo Ann Falletta.

Tickets are $27 for adults, $22 for retired and military, $12 for students available through the orchestra website and also at the door.
