Gary Evans had three careers until retiring and turning to his first passion: writing. A series of drownings in La Crosse, on the banks of the Mississippi River, piqued his interest as a mystery writer. Evans spent 30 years in Midwest newsrooms as an award-winning writer, editor and publisher, and then served for more than a decade as Vice President of Winona State University. He ended his career as the President and CEO of Hiawatha Broadband Communication, one of the nation’s first alternative entrant telecommunications firms, after 15 years. Gary and his wife Ellen, they have two grown children, Gregory and Natalie.
The Laureate Writer’s Series is sponsored by the City of Winona’s Fine Arts Commission. The City of Winona is a partner of River Arts Alliance.
