Laureate Writers Series – November 2017

Tuesday | November 7 | 7:00pm
Blue Heron Coffee House

Kathleen Peterson, a.k.a. Kathleen Anne Kenney, will read from her recent fiction as part of the Laureate Writers Series. She will read from Girl on the Leeside, a lyrical novel set in Ireland, as well as an excerpt from the book she’s working on now. Girl on the Leeside was published this year by Doubleday. The reading will be followed by a book signing as well as an open mic. The theme for this month’s open mic is “Faith.”

Kathy Peterson is a novelist, freelance writer and playwright. She has had short plays presented at Theatre du Mississippi, and her “New Menu” play was a winner in the 2012 Rochester Repertory Theatre’s “Ten-Minute Plays” national competition. In the fall of 2014 she was commissioned to write a play set in 1920’s Winona, called “The Bootleg Blues.” Peterson was awarded an individual artist grant from the Southeastern MN Arts Council in 2012 for a staged reading of “The Ghost of an Idea,” a one-actor play about Charles Dickens. In May of 2015 she published the novel Summer for the Taking with Bookshelf Editions in Winona. Her writing has appeared in Big River Magazine, Coulee Region Women’s Magazine, Tapestry Magazine, as well as area newspapers. She has been the Arts Administrator at Winona State University since 2008.

This event is free and open to the public and anyone may participate in the open mic session. The Laureate Writers Series is co-sponsored by the Blue Heron Coffee House and the Winona Fine Arts Commission.
