Laureate Writers Series – February 2018
Curt Meine to read from The Driftless Reader
WEDNESDAY* | February 7 | 7:00pm
Blue Heron Coffee House
The Laureate Writers Series will feature Curt Meine, conservation biologist, writer and editor. He will present selections from The Driftless Reader, the recently-published anthology that includes more than 80 pieces highlighting the unique natural and cultural history, landscape, and literature of this region. The reading will be followed by a book signing and an open mic. The theme for the open mic is “Rivers,” but other appropriate subject matter is also welcome.
Curt Meine is affiliated with the Aldo Leopold Foundation, Center for Humans and Nature, International Crane Foundation, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His many books include Aldo Leopold: His Life and Work and Wallace Stegner and the Continental Vision. The Driftless Reader was published in September 2017 and is already in its second printing. The text is complemented by paintings, photographs, maps and other images, and should interest writers, artists, historians, philosophers and lovers of the Driftless Area in general. Selections range from work by Native writers, scientists, explorers, farmers, and songwriters, to historical figures like Thoreau, Mark Twain, Black Hawk, and Frank Lloyd Wright, and selections from more than fifty living writers including local poets Mark Wunderlich and Ken McCullough. This event is co-sponsored by Winona’s Fine Arts Commission and The Blue Heron and is free and open to the public.
*Please note that this is a Wednesday, not the usual Tuesday.
The Laureate Writer’s Series is sponsored by the City of Winona’s Fine Arts Commission. The City of Winona is a partner of River Arts Alliance.
