Winona based artist, Julie Johnston, will be exhibiting her recent work, Rooted In The Land: SE Minnesota Women Farmers, at the Winona County History Center. The Opening Reception will be free and open to the public. Meet the artist and many of the women farmers featured in Johnston’s paintings and pastels. Refreshments will be served.

Johnston, a local artist, has been traveling the region interviewing and capturing images of women farmers. Her paintings highlight the multiple aspects of farm work these contemporary women farmers do. Johnston’s art sheds light on the impact women farmers have in nurturing and feeding their communities. Johnston feels this project is a way to celebrate these historically “invisible” farmers. The Winona County Historical Society will include artifacts and stories of women farmers of the area’s past as well! Nonperishable products from some of the women farmers featured will be for sale in the Museum Shop during the exhibit.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts & cultural heritage fund.
