Jazz returns to Café Congo! Members of two WSU jazz groups, The Modern Jazz Combo and Jazz At First Sight, will perform in a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity (details above). As with all Café Congo fundraising events, admission is by freewill donation with all of this event’s proceeds going to our local Habitat for Humanity. The students selected Habitat for Humanity as their cause, it’s an organization that “brings people together to build homes, community and hope.” It also operates the Habitat ReStore at 77 Laird Street.
And you’re in store for some great jazz! Led by their teachers and well-known local jazz musicians Rich MacDonald and Larry Price, the groups will each play a 45-minute set featuring favorite jazz standards plus a few surprises! Now in its 5th year, Café Congo presents talented young musicians ‘playing it forward’ for good causes; it’s a social action initiative of the First Congregational Church UCC. So please join us in support of the student musicians and their cause, all while enjoying some wonderful jazz. And bring along a friend! Refreshments will be served. The church is handicap accessible at the canopied Johnson St. entrance. Doors open at 6:45. The First Congregational Church of Winona is an Open & Affirming community of faith. All are welcome.
