Community arts advocate and organizer Carrie Frederich will lead an artsXchange conversation on Saturday, October 22, focusing on three main words – Community, Connection, and Collaboration. How can we as artists and advocates for the arts engage with our communities? In this artsXchange, Carrie will share her lived experience as an arts professional and collaborator in the Winona Arts Community and invite discussion on what we hope that community will look like in the future, and how we can make that happen! Carrie will also share a glimpse into the creation (and ongoing development) of her fledgling collaborative organization, ArtFarm, and the project they are planning to launch this fall. Participants will explore the museum’s collections and current exhibitions, with special attention to Water Stories: New Work by Anne Labovitz and how the audience is encouraged to collaborate with the art to fully experience it.

Originally from the Chicago area, Carrie re-settled in Winona in 2019. Carrie’s background in the arts started in theatre. She graduated from Winona State University’s theatre program in 2009 and has been organizing arts-centered events, festivals, and collaborative projects ever since. She is a graduate of Engage Winona’s Lived Experience Leaders program, a board member for the Winona Arts Center, and is currently rebuilding the City of Winona’s arts-focused commission with a mayor-appointed task force.

The event is free for members of MMAM or RAA and is free with general museum admission for all others. Registration is highly recommended, and space is limited to 25 attendees per program. Visit this link to register.

About artsXchange:

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum and River Arts Alliance are coming together to bring you a new, monthly informal artist exchange – a chance for artists and creatives from across a variety of mediums to gather for inspiration, exploration and exchange at the museum. Each month, a member from River Arts Alliance, a nonprofit that supports and celebrates regional arts and culture, hosts a 90-minute meet-up and conversation with an artist, maker, designer, writer, or another creative person.

The evening will begin by gathering in the atrium at MMAM and meeting their artist host. The group will then take a short inspirational tour of the museum (identifying a couple of signature pieces to spark conversation, chosen by your artist guide), and continue with a meet-up in the Oberton Education Room for inspiring conversation that ranges from anything from technique, to who’s making what, to sales strategies, and other opportunities.

A list of upcoming artsXchanges scheduled for the remainder of 2022 is available here.
