Saint Mary’s University Spring Choral Concert features alumni singers and guest conductor, Patrick O’Shea
Mark your calendars now for Saturday, April 15th, 7:30 PM at Mary of the Angels Chapel. The Saint Mary’s University Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers, led by Dr. Janet Heukeshoven, will perform their annual spring concert with over 70 alumni singers joining current choir members. This performance also features guest conductor Patrick O’Shea, former director of the Saint Mary’s choral program.
The concert will include a wide variety of repertoire including American folk song arrangements, songs by contemporary composers (Z. Randall Stroope, Knut Nystedt, René Clausen, Stephan Paulus, Paul Fetler) and a number of spirituals and gospel works composed by A. Eric Heukeshoven, Hall Johnson and Jack Halloran. Student conductor and Music Education major Gianna Henningsen will lead the full choir in an arrangement of The Water is Wide and a men’s vocal selection, Fa Una Canzona, a late Renaissance Italian madrigal by Orazio Vecchi.
Three songs at the end of the concert will be sung by current choir members and visiting alumni singers: Witness (Halloran) and The Road Home (Paulus) will be led by Dr. Patrick O’Shea.
Dr. Janet Heukeshoven will lead the massed choir in Dickau’s beautiful song, If Music be the Food of Love.
If you’ve enjoyed attending the Saint Mary’s Choir concerts in the past, this is a “not to be missed” event. Doors will open at 7 PM, there is no admission charge and seating is open to all. Plan to stay for the cookie reception in Alverna Hall immediately after the performance.
