Great River Writes Critique Group
Where everyone is welcome to listen and share.

Our next meeting is Monday, May 15 from 1-3.

We’ll be in Winona Public Library, in the meeting room right off the Art Room, where the CD’s and DVD’s used to be.

Bring a copy of your writing that you wish to share (up to 2000 words). Optionally, bring 5-8 extra copies to share with participants. The library staff no longer can make copies for the group.

As always, feel free to use the prompts below, change them, or ignore them and write your own idea. We will read aloud, then share verbal comments and suggestions.

Important Announcement from Terri Karsten, Great River Writes Group Leader:

Due to several circumstances, I will no longer be able to lead our meetings.

Our May meeting will be the last one I will be able to attend for some time. If someone else would like to step up as host, please let me know. If no one volunteers, the May meeting will be our last.

I’ve truly enjoyed working with those of you who attend our critique group. Feel free to contact me with writing questions, and Keep On Writing!

May Prompts:

  1. Write about a character who receives a letter from a long-lost relative with a surprising revelation.
  2. Write a story or poem that begins with the sentence “The door creaked open, revealing a long-forgotten room.”

Great River Writes and the City of Winona are partners of River Arts Alliance.
