Andrea Shaker is leading a reading & audience feedback session on her current book project on Sunday, March 17 from 1:00-3:00 at the Winona Arts Center on the lower level. This is a free event in conjunction with The Cedar Tree Project but space is limited, so advance registration is required by March 16. You may sign up at this link. Light refreshments will be served.

Andrea Shaker (she/her) lives on Dakota and Annishaabe lands. Shaker’s creative work is interdisciplinary, spanning photography, moving image, experimental film, and writing. As an Arab American, her creative practice addresses themes of home, homeland, migration and diaspora. In 2021 she co-directed a segment of Sharon Mansur’s solo dance performance, 1001 Arab Futures and mounted the installation fragmented echoes of future memories at the Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts, Winona. Her short film on bayt recently screened in the Blurring Borders: Cinema & Home set at the 2024 Frozen River Film Festival. She is a professor of art at the College of St. Benedict | St. John’s University. andreashaker.com.

The Cedar Tree Project, facilitated by Winona based dance/interdisciplinary artist Sharon Mansur, presents, supports and amplifies contemporary art and artists of Arab/SWANA heritage and regions, inviting deeper understanding, empathy and engagement through artistic exchange. www.cedartreeproject.com.

Andrea Shaker is a fiscal year 2023 recipient of a Creative Support for Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board.
