About Mobile Mini-Concerts:
Mobile Mini Concerts were born out of COVID social distancing to stay connected in-person with audiences. They are now one of the Bach Society of MN’s most highly anticipated events. Each concert is performed in a pop-up format featuring a solo singer or instrumentalist for a 20-minute show. After one show, the artist moves on to the next location, typically performing a brief show in four or more locations in the span of a morning or afternoon. Mobile Mini-Concerts increase access to cultural offerings by presenting free performances in outdoor and other public spaces that attract audiences of all ages, in the Twin Cities and many other cities throughout the state.
What started as an experiment in 2020 grew by 2023 to attract over 2,000 participants across the Metro. The popular Mobile Mini-Concerts, a Minnesota Bach Festival tradition, are now being held year-round. This month, during the Minnesota Bach Festival, Bach Society of MN musicians will present 80 Mobile Mini-Concerts in public spaces in St. Paul, Minneapolis, Rochester, Duluth, Stillwater, Winona, St. Cloud, and other communities throughout Minnesota. People are encouraged to request a future Mobile Mini-Concert for their porch, workplace, or other community space by emailing events@bachsocietymn.org. The May schedule is available at Mobile Mini-Concerts | Bach Society of Minnesota (bachsocietymn.org).
About Charles Asch:
Charles Asch performs on baroque and modern cello throughout the Twin Cities and Minnesota. He completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Minnesota, his master’s degree at Juilliard and his undergraduate studies at Northwestern University in both German studies and music performance. He performs with Lyra Baroque Orchestra as well as with Bach Society of MN, including solo recitals as part of the Mobile Mini-Concerts series by Bach Society. He is also a member of the Twin Cities Catholic Chorale Orchestra, the only full-season mass orchestra and choir in the United States, performing masses by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Gounod and more. The last performance season included performances with the National Lutheran Choir as well as solo recitals featuring works by Bach, Rachmaninoff and Bridge. Dr. Asch has taught on the faculty at University of Minnesota-Morris, University of Wisconsin River-Falls and at MacPhail Center for Music and is currently teaching at Mount Calvary Academy of Music in Excelsior and at his private studios in Long Lake and Delano.

About Bach Society of Minnesota:
Bach Society of Minnesota was founded in 1932, one of the first organizations in North America to take the legacy of Johann Sebastian Bach as an exclusive starting point for world-class performances with period instruments and historic performance practices that evoke the depths and passions of Bach’s compositions. Under the artistic direction of Matthias Maute, the organization continues its focus on collaboration and excellence, striving to create respectful, successful relationships among musicians, audiences, students, and partner organizations, and building a diverse community with a shared passion for performing, promoting, and appreciating the music of J.S.
