The Winona Brass Band concludes their 31st season with a spring concert at the Winona Middle School Auditorium. The ensemble is excited to return to the Middle School stage for their second performance this season featuring a variety of pieces, both old and new.
The performance will start with two traditional Brass Band favorites – Curnow’s Blenheim Flourishes and Exhibition Quick March by Hume. The multi-movement Cry of the Celts features thrilling music from Ireland. The regional premiere of Norwegian composer Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen’s Vikingkirken commemorates the 1000-year anniversary of the establishment of a church in Kabelvag, Norway. The historic event is portrayed in music through the rough and powerful contrasted with the sacred and delicate. Other works on the program include Superman by John Williams and Festival Fanfare by William Himes.
Winona Brass Band concerts are free and open to all. Donations are accepted to support the group’s mission to enhance the cultural environment of Winona by performing three concerts per year.
