The Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) invites visitors to its Spring Seasonal Saturday: Whale of a Time program on Saturday, April 12, 2025. This lively event, inspired by MMAM’s newest exhibition, A Spectacle in Motion: The Grand Panorama of a Whaling Voyage ‘Round the World, offers an engaging day of art, music, and community activities.

With $1 admission, visitors can explore the museum, participate in interactive art-making, listen to live music, and connect with community partners. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with galleries remaining open until 5 p.m. Visitors can enjoy a variety of engaging activities throughout the day.

This spring, MMAM will open the art-making activity room at 9:30am to offer a quieter environment to
minimize distractions and sensory stimulation. The art-making room, and all other activities,
will open to the general public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where guests can create mini panoramas
inspired by A Spectacle in Motion. At 12:30 p.m. in the Manoogian Gallery, visitors can witness
the advancement of another 40 feet of the 1,275-foot-long panorama in A Spectacle of Motion.

Live music performances will take place in the galleries with Heart Strings Harp Circle
playing from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., and Moonstone performing folk and jazz from 3 to 4 p.m. A
variety of guided tours will also be available: the MMAM Highlights Tour at 10:15 a.m., 12:15
p.m., and 2:15 p.m.; the Curator’s Tour at 11:15 a.m. and 3:15 p.m.; and the Director’s Tour at
1:15 p.m. All tours are 30 minutes long and utilize assistive listening devices. Bingo Overboard,
a search-and-find gallery game, will be available in the Atrium from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where
every participant wins a prize.

The event also features community partnerships. Theater du Mississippi will be onsite
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where visitors can create a whale mask while learning about Winona’s
community theater group. Project FINE will offer Hmong and Spanish interpretation services
from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to ensure accessibility for all guests.

The Spring Seasonal Saturday event runs from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 12,
2025, at MMAM, located at 800 Riverview Drive, Winona, MN. For more information, please

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum is a nonprofit art museum that creates meaningful
art experiences that explore our relationship with water. Located in Winona, Minnesota, the
purpose-built museum is located on the banks of the Mississippi River and boasts six galleries,
an educational and events space, and a destination retail shop on its seven acre riverside
campus. It is through this surprising diversity that MMAM is not only describing what marine
art is, but pushing the boundaries of what marine art can be.

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum is a member of the River Arts Alliance. To learn more about the benefits of membership, please visit: riverartsalliance.org/membership/. River Arts Alliance serves as fiscal sponsor of the Maria W. Faust Sonnet Contest.
